As a Sociolinguist, I am interested in the contact of languages, variation in French, language policy, language attitudes, as well as Francophonie, with a tangential interest for the didactical implications of sociolinguistic situations (i.e. Second Language Teaching). 

As a Semiotician of Literature, I study the interface between Linguistics and Literature.

My main geographical research area is Subsaharan (West) Africa.

Founder of the Cercle Benveniste Circle.

Active/Associate member of the following research teams: Cercle Benveniste (Calgary); CELFA (Centre d'Études Linguistiques et Littéraires Francophones et Africaines, Bordeaux, France); GRICC (Groupe de Recherche Interdisciplinaire sur les Cultures en Contact, Moncton, NB); and LACIS (Langues en Contact et Incidences Subjectives, Montpellier, France).

Postdoctoral Fellow (Bourse d'Excellence) with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie in 2001-2002.

Visiting Professor at the Université des Antilles et de la Guyane, where I teach graduate seminars for the ISEF (Institut Supérieur d'Études Francophones) -- 2005-07; 2009-10.

Visiting Researcher at the Université François-Rabelais, Tours (France) -- March 2017.
