Education and Research

After an Italian "Laurea" in "Lettere Moderne" at the University of Bologna (1991) and a French "Doctorat" in Italian Studies at Paris IV-Sorbonne in Paris (1999), I completed a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature-Italian at CUNY, The Graduate Center (2002), The City University of New York.

My fields of interest include Italian Language and Culture, Teaching Methodologies, Literary Criticism and Translation, Fascism and Literature, Intellectual History, Film, Cultural and Mediterranean Studies. As Assistant Professor of Italian I taught different courses - at both a graduate and undergraduate level - on Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture, Film, Translation, Mediterranean and Cultural Studies. I have been paying careful attention to questions of representation of gender and identity in courses like "Literature and Fascism", "Italian Literature and the Mediterranean", "The Italian Detective Story", "Italy in the 1960s and 1970s", "Women Intellectuals in Italy", "Twentieth Century Italian Poetry", "Identity and the Self in the Italian Novel", "Roberto Rossellini's Cinema", "Body That Matters: Poetics of Identity in Umberto Saba, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Elsa Morante", "Romanticism and the Baroque: Manzoni's [I Promessi sposi]" and "Giacomo Leopardi's Prose and Poetry".
