About Me:

I am a Professor in the Department of French, Italian and Spanish, with a joint appointment in Linguistics. I am also associated with the Language Research Centre. Prior to coming to Calgary, I taught in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Ottawa.

My primary areas of research involve French phonology and morphology: Standard French, Old French, Canadian French. I am currently investigating the pronunciation of French in Alberta as part of a larger international project La phonologie du français contemporain: usages, variétés et structure under the direction of Jacques Durand (Université de Toulouse-Le Mirail), Chantal Lyche (Université d'Oslo) and Bernard Laks (Université de Paris X). My work has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Camargo Foundation (Cassis, France), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canada-Alberta Agreement on the Official Languages in Education, and various internal grants from the University of Calgary.
