About Me

I am from Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic) where I studied science and engineering, leading to PhD in physics from the University of Prague. In 1973 I immigrated to Canada and spent all my working life in the field of Computer Science, the last 10 years teaching for the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary. My first contact with Spanish happened a long time ago in the mountains of Peru. Without knowing the language, it was difficult to communicate with the local population and since there was little chance that Peruvians living in remote areas would learn English, I decided to learn Spanish. After my retirement I decided to take Spanish seriously and followed many courses at U of C. Now I have been accepted into the MA program and my research interest is to compare contemporary Latin and European novels and evaluate to which extent fiction represents the differences between those two cultures. I speak Czech, English and Spanish and my hobbies are mountaineering and skiing.
