This course will explore writing and the articulation national/cultural identity in the texts of African writers in French and Spanish. In addition to analyzing both major print and audiovisual texts to support our inquiry, we will examine comparatively and critically similarities and differences in the expressive strategies used by these African writers to address and tackle issues regarding discrimination, cultural identity, nation-building, and gender (roles) from the colonial period to the post-independence era.
This course may not be repeated for credit.
