This course is a theoretical and practical overview of the processes and issues related to the teaching and learning of Spanish as a second language. We will explore theories of second language acquisition, second language pedagogy, methodological approaches, individual learner characteristics, strategies and styles, the role of culture in the language classroom, and the use of technology in language teaching. Students will present different readings, create their own teaching materials, plan classes, and analyze resources for learning Spanish, including the Aula Virtual de Español (AVE) materials. The opportunity to study any aspect of the course in more depth will be the objective of a final research paper or a take-home exam.
This course may not be repeated for credit.
