ITAL 499.05 - Italian Art from Renaissance to Baroque - Fall 2007

The class deals with Italian painting from the XVth to the begining of XVIIth Century (Piero della Francesca, Pontormo, Caravaggio etc.), giving a general survey of the art of this period. We will view some slides of the most important artworks and discuss them during the class. Some short extracts of early modern literature about art (Leon Battista Alberti, Giorgio Vasari) will be explained and possibly translated from Italian into English. The class will be taught in Italian, so that students will improve their knowledge of the language.
This course may not be repeated for credit.
