Commercials have been in our lives since the beginning of the first radio broadcasts and we all have gotten accustomed to have them present in our lives, either on TV, on the radio or more recently online. On the topic of TV commercials, do Japanese people actually watch them? Then, how are commercials reflecting the characteristics of the culture of the public they target? Are there any particular characteristics for the Japanese commercials run on TV? How about the people shown in these commercials: is there a particular way that commercials are showing a specific category – for example women? These are only a few of the questions whose answers are targeted in this talk.
