Where did the Elvish that Legolas and Galadriel speak come from? Where did the Klingon that Worf and Gowron speak come from? Someone had to invent those languages - and yes, inventing languages is a thing!

The Language Creation Conference (LCC) is a biennial international conference that explores different facets of language creation - from theoretical linguistic discussions, to the how and why, all the way to performance pieces in constructed languages.

The LCC is the premier event of the Language Creation Society, an international not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote the art of language creation and to raise public awareness of this art form.

This year, we host the 7th LCC in Calgary, AB, at the University of Calgary on July 22-23. This is the first time that the LCC will be held in Canada, and it promises to be our biggest LCC yet!

Good news! We'll be live streaming the entire conference on the Language Creation Society's youtube channel: Fiat Lingua (youtube.com/fiatlingua). There is no subscription fee to participate remotely, and you can tune in for the talks you want to see, as well as participating in the discussions through our IRC chat channel (information to be posted on our website soon - conlang.org).

Additionally, we are hosting the world premier of the SSHRC-funded documentary film "Conlanging: The Art of Crafting Tongues" at the Plaza Theatre in Kensington beginning at 7:30pm on July 22. The screening will be followed with a Q&A session with the Director and some of the Producers, as well as conlangers who appeared in the film.

This event is open to the public. You can pick up tickets in advance at: http://conlangingfilm.com/world-premiere/. If still available, tickets can also be purchased at the door. Profits from this film are being donated to endangered language and conlanging causes.
